Surbhi Mudgal

A Sight to Behold

When a brain disease robbed her of her vision early in her teens, Surbhi went through a myriad of emotions. But none of this stopped her from being the independent and driven woman she is today. “Despite it being a challenge, I do everything I want to, and I’m proud of it!” she says.

Watching Surbhi go about her day is a sight to behold! She confidently applies kajal to define her eyes, she walks to the kitchen and cooks up a bowl of masala rice, and she performs these activities with a contagious smile. Watching her in her element, it is hard to tell that this is a woman who has lost her eyesight.

When a brain disease robbed her of her vision early in her teens, Surbhi went through a myriad of emotions. She was depressed. And what added to her plight was the societal struggle she had to face, and the disability in itself, that she had to cope with. But none of this stopped her from being the independent and driven woman she is today. “It doesn’t bother me anymore,” she says. “Despite it being a challenge, I do everything I want to, and I’m proud of it!”

Surbhi is an app tester with a renowned software firm in Hyderabad. Despite her lack of vision, her office trusts her ‘blindly’ when it comes to doing her job. Reaching this level of trust required a lot of effort on her part. But Surbhi is an unstoppable force. And robbing her of her senses isn’t enough to rob her of her sense of worth!
