Jutika Mahanta

The Safe Haven

A few years ago, Jutika relinquished her high-paying job with a media conglomerate to play an active role in raising her children. But in doing so, she didn’t forego her passions. Today, she balances her role as a mother along with the various other roles she has adopted over the years, effortlessly.

Since time immemorial, mothers have been looked at as a safe-haven for those in search of love and nurturing. Jutika Mahanta, former media professional and mother of two, is a woman who perfectly fits this profile. Except that her sanctum of care doesn’t extend to just her two children. It overflows onto her hometown as well!

A few years ago, Jutika relinquished her high-paying job with a media conglomerate to play an active role in raising her children. But in doing so, she didn’t forego her passions. She maintained a connection with the media world through articles that she contributed regularly. But despite juggling the roles of a mother and a professional, Jutika felt like she had room for more.

Her strong sense of responsibility towards Assam led her to begin propagating its vibrant ideas, festivals, art and culture to the people in Mumbai. Her sense of belonging also extended to the people of North East, especially those moving to cities like Mumbai in search of better cancer treatment. She assists them by fixing doctor’s appointments at the Tata Memorial and other renowned hospitals, finding them accommodation, and even talking to financial bodies to fund their expenses. The resources at her disposal are few, but Jutika’s resolve more than makes up for it! Similarly, she has also started an entrepreneurial venture called ‘Bollywood Couch’ through which she offers opportunities in the entertainment business to her fellow North Eastern folk.

And with that, Jutika takes motherhood to a whole new level, becoming the shangri-la of care and affection to those with their roots in the picturesque state of Assam.
